In my personality type based communication workshops I sometimes have participants complete this thought –“To communicate most effectively with me, please…” This exercise helps participants express their communication style and preferences.
I can’t take credit for this exercise. It is modified from one created by Jean Kummerow.
Here is a photo of a response from a group of people who have ISTJ preferences.
Communicating
These people provide practical, succinct points about how to communicate with them. Give them complete information ahead of time. Be clear, to the point, specific, and concise.
Clarifying expectations is important when you are interacting with ISTJs. They want communications to specifically define the who, what, when, where, and why of a situation.
