Type Trivia

Type Trivia

By Donna Dunning

Donna DunningHow do you feel about working in an organization that has clear structures and responsibilities?

Which four-letter type answered “like” the most?

Which four-letter type answered “like” the least?

This question (as well as several others) was asked to individuals who participated in making up the US National sample when creating the newest form of the MBTI ® tool.

As expected, it was an SJ group, ESTJ, who “liked” this statement the most (96% answered “like”).

Even the lowest group, INTP, answered “like” 73.7% to this question. So the majority of people, generally, responded that they like some form of clear structure and responsibilities.

I imagine the INTPs probably like clear structure and responsibility so they can go ahead and work independently within their roles.

Would you answer “like” to this question? Your two other choices are indifferent or dislike.

Having ENFP preferences and thriving on flexibility, I have an immediate negative response to the word “structure”. My first impulse would be to answer, dislike.

That being said, I have been self-employed for decades, and I know I work best when I “create” structure and define my responsibilities. I think for me, being in control of my structure and responsibilities is what is important.

  1. Vicki B says:

Having worked for an organization/manager who never gave me any direction at all (and then complained that I hadn’t read his mind in my annual review :-(, yeah, I prefer clear structures and responsibilities in the organization. The opposite is chaos.

That said, I couldn’t possibly agree with you more, Donna, when you say ” I know I work best when I “create” structure and define my responsibilities. I think for me, being in control of my structure and responsibilities is what is important.”

So, the org itself needs structure AND I need to be able to control my own responsibilities as well.

  2. Wow, I’m an ENFP too, so is Nick (on Twitter) from Kelowna, BC
