In my personality type based communication workshops I sometimes have participants complete this thought –“To communicate most effectively with me, please…” This exercise helps participants express their personal communication style and preferences.
I can’t take credit for this exercise. It is modified from one created by Jean Kummerow.
Here is a photo of a response from an individual with ISFJ preferences.
As with many people who prefer introversion, this individual wants others to slow down and listen carefully to what he or she has to say.
No matter what a person’s personality preference is, I think everyone wants to be heard and acknowledged. However, the typical way we express ourselves may interfere with this process.
People with a preference for extraversion may interrupt and finish each other’s sentences as a normal conversational flow, while those who prefer introversion are more likely to let someone finish, and then pause and speak.
